A senior Obama administration official says al Qaida No. 2 leader, Atiyah Abd al-Rahman, has been killed in Pakistan.
Al Rahman was a Libyan national who was considered al-Qaida’s operational leader before rising to the No. 2 spot following Osama bin Laden’s death in May.

Three explosions rocked Jhaveri Bazaar area of South Mumbai on Wednesday evening. 21 persons have been killed and 141 persons have been injured.
Low-intensity explosions went off at Zaveri Bazaar, Opera House and Kabutar Khana in Dadar, all densely crowded places during the evening rush hour, between 6.45 pm and 7.15 pm, Mumbai police said.

MF Husain passes away in London

India’s most famous modern artist M.F. Husain, who left the country in 2006 due to threats from Hindu extremists, died on Thursday in London, media reports said citing family members.
Husain, who was aged 95 and known as the “Picasso of India”, died at the Royal Brompton hospital in London.

Supreme Court rejects Aruna Shanbaug’s mercy plea for death

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected mercy death plea of 60-year-old Aruna Shanbaug, a former nurse, who has been lying in a vegetative state at KEM hospital for the last 37 years.
The euthanasia plea was filed by a Mumbai-based social activist, Pinki Virani. Shanbaug was raped by the hospital’s sweeper in November 1973. The rapist had tried to strangle her with a dog chain following which she suffered brain damage....
